Gossip rule No 1:
If you want to maintain the (clearly false) appearance of a kind and thoughtful online persona in front of certain people, then I recommend that you mock those people behind their backs only where they truly won't be able to see it. So, yeah, you may want to avoid Twitter.

OMG she read it !!! ;-)
I find muttering under my breath in front of the computer to be quite sufficient for my internet gossipy-needs (well, except advisor venting. I'll fess up to that one). Preferably in a language the person next to me doesn't speak.
That wasn't intended to be gossip behind anyone's back. I knew Clarissa or you could read it when I wrote it last night, as I'm sure others in that thread knew it as well. I'm feeling quite burned from the commenting thread on her blog earlier this weekend; those types of vicious interactions make me downright nauseous. And while you didn't throw the same outright verbal daggers that Clarissa did, your statements and support of her militant position were equally hurtful to me (and others). Believe it or not, I actually am sorry if that Twitter conversation offended you, but I was quite offended myself.
OTOH, maybe I just care way too much what people think of me.
Erm, did I miss something?
What militant position? Whose support? Who's getting offended with whose support for whose militant position?
I don't even think I took any militant positions lately. The last one was probably in January.
Or maybe it's another Clarissa. Then please disregard my comment.
Who knows, buddy? Dr. O has a very popular blog doncha know? She doesn't have time to be running around willy nilly addressing each militant Clarissa individually.
What if you want to maintain the (accurate) persona of a jerkwad on the Internet (JWOTI)?
No, I don't know who Dr. O is.
I have a feeling things are going on in this thread that I'm not aware of and people are getting aggressive for reasons I have no idea about.
So I'm just going to go and let the folks who know what this is about sort it out.
Oh, you call so many people “disgusting, vile, stupid freak”s that you can't be arsed to remember them all? I'm sorry, but the dumb and run doesn't suit you.
I read science blogs and I'm catching up on my reader and people are suddenly picking on this Clarissa in their posts - something about twitter or whatever. So she disagrees with people and she sticks to her guns and doesn't care. So then people make a show of her in front of the whole school cos her hair is not teased right?! I mean blogosphere yada yada but forgive me for reverting to middle school. Then again, this isn't the first time science cliques have shown xenophobia.
